I dug out the main corm (4th Generation) and all the satellite corms for three plants about a week ago. I chopped the pstem and leaves and added them to the mulch layer. All that is left is the corms which were cut off about soil level.

What to do with the unwanted corms? Just toss them into the garbage can? I don't want them to grow wild and take over and have to dig them out again.

We're you totally ripping out the whole stand? Or just taking out the old corm? If it's old corm, how would there be leaves and trunk to cut off?

What variety?

I have never heard of anyone doing that. Is the old come diseased?



When I ripped out the unknown banana plant, in the post Apple or Icecream, I left the leafless, rootless corn sitting on top of some weedy ground. It grew some roots and started growing an eye. So I guess you should havethrow it away, or if you happened to have a lot of land, you could bury the forms in a far away corner and not go there for a year and a half, and then go one day and find a bunch of bananas there. Anyway, that's novel.🌄🏝🏡🎯💰😎😎😎

They are all old corms. Maybe four generations plus the current plant.

Yeah, I took the whole stand out so I chopped up the above ground pstems, leaves, etc. and dug the corms. That was a lot of digging! Took my time with plenty of breaks. Those corms were heavy! Maybe 50lbs or more??

It was an Unknown variety. I still have two of them in my patch but decided to eliminate three stands to make room for a couple other varieties. Not enough land to just throw them out in a far out corner. I've dug pups and layed them up against the fence above ground and they took off. Bananas are hard to kill! I think I will toss them in the trash can.

You advertise them as free and pickup only. You might fine another local banana grow to start trading with.

I'm with max, set them beside the road just after garbage pickup with a box saying bananas. always someone wanting a banana plant in their yard.

how did they fare after the winter? the mother was 4 years old and never fruited? if so I want a couple.

Beam, they fruited just about every year but always late in the season. One year I got some good size bananas but I want to try some other stuff. I planted the original plant four years ago. So I removed the great grand sons this year and whatever was left in the ground from prior generations.

I just want to move some stuff around. I picked up some plants (blue java, raja puri, indian hill) last year from a few members and want to relocate a couple to my main patch which is more visible from my back porch/pool area. Maybe I will add a Praying Hands this year...last year's never got going and died out which was disapointing.

indian hill????? is that a banana.

praying hands is a great one to grow in our zone. don't pup to much tho, I have to cut the pup from the mother [not dig it up] to get her to pup again. 6 months to fill the fruit out. same with raja puri. this winter stays pretty much the same I should have lots of raja puri fruiting in the spring.

Beam it’s called Musa Virupakshi. The Indian Hill Banana. Out of all the bananas I have tasted. Including even Tu’u Ghia! Which was good but not as good as I hoped. Virupakshi is my 2nd all time favorite. Behind Patupi.

I LOVE the taste of Pome types. This one is like a normal Brazilian only 10x sweeter. More creamy also. They are small fruit and super tall but so good. Get with me later this year I’ll send you one.
