Confused Musa...
I recently planted 2 musa basjoos (about 3 weeks ago). One is about 2 feet, the other about 5 feet. I planted them in the same general area - and the big one is very sad. I have watered them the same, they get the same sun, but for some reason, the big one has lost all but 2 leaves and has not grown any new ones since being planted. The remaining 2 leaves are horribly pathetic (brown and yellow) On the other hand, the small one has many leaves and pups too. What could be the problem??? They get full pm sun - not sure why one would get sun burnt and not the other?? Any ideas???

Re: Confused Musa...
Hey - they do that! Some take off straightaway and some go into a decline for no known reason. Don't overwater the sad plant and don't be tempted to dig it up "for a look" - one of mine finally put up a shoot 2 months after being invisible underground after the top died off. I was tempted so many times to take the spade to it!!

Re: Confused Musa...
HI PB&J,
One of mine (Grand Nain in the ground) has gone the way that you've described above. I am learning to leave well enough alone & know that it knows how to do it's thing. I'm just making sure to water & not overwater & keep an eye on it, but letting it be otherwise. I know how you're feeling, but Island Cassie is right...they just do it...but it will be ok! You'll see!! Chin Up! ~Cheryl

Re: Confused Musa...
Bananas are crazy. Top growth may die back and a few months later you have half a dozen.

Re: Confused Musa...
The big one could also have been greenhouse-grown. I find that my bananas are quite puny and weak once brought outside from the greenhouse.

Re: Confused Musa...
Hey - thank you all!! I called a nursery - and they told me to do exactly what Island Cassie told me not to - dig around it to "take a look" - so I will leave him be - yes, for some reason I have given him the male gender & name... ) "Guapo" (spanish for handsome) He was a good looking tree... so thank you again - I will work on my patience. I do think however that he is getting sunburned - the leaves facing the pm sun are burning - any ideas how to help out without having to move him?? I considered misting??

Re: Confused Musa...
my basjoo did the same thing beacause it was recently grown in shade, however it will grow new leaves well adapted to the sun and itll quit looking so ratty, these leaves will all be cutt off ,so id go ahead and cut them off since they crispy anyway,it will give it less stress time and start focusing on the new leaves.good luck!

Re: Confused Musa...
PB&J - they are very tough if not babied and overwatered - be patient!
