Default Brown spot on p-stem?

I removed a 4ft 3" thick pup from a mat about a month ago from a local park. They were in a very tight spot so I didn't get to many roots. It sent up a flag leaf but it stopped and has not opened. Noticed there is a brown/black spot showing up on the one side of the p-stem about a foot away from the soil. Plant is still nice and green and red. Should I be worried about this spot, not sure why this has happened exactly. Thanks

I will when I can. Its not mushy at all from the other day when I was touching it. Doesn't seem like it has sent any roots out as it won't stand on its on I'm sure. It is roped off to help it stand up. Might just be so late in the year that the roots will take several months.
