Default Banana cut to above the soil line

I have here a banana (unknown dwarf) that has been cut down to about an inch above the soil line sitting in a container. I know the plant has never bloomed or produced fruit. Will it die or regrow?

Noting: The reason for the cut back didn't involve disease, pest or pups.
