About 2 hours with my Sawzall. Chairs I found on the side of the road; Matthew just keeps giving. Sure they need a little TLC but already feel like they belong.

I lopped all the leaves on my smaller bananas in half, less for the wind to catch... What was left got somewhat shredded, but survived. My big ones, 1 of which had a bunch I thought was nearing completion and one that just flowered and one that just began flowering when the storm hit, and one more about to flower (It now has the pre flag unfurling) .... I trimmed a few lower leaves to help and cut the bunch I thought was close, but now it's looking not so close... (Bummer.. I hope I get to eat at least some. They were hanging 4 months.).. The other three weren't toppled by the main winds, but the after winds from the west pushed them over some, but not down. Leaves kinda shredded but ok. My neighbor's mat lost all the big ones. He has Manzanos.

Varieties I supposedly bought: Manzano, Cavendish, Blue Java, Sweetheart, and Gros Michel.
What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more.

Yep - Hurricanes do have a twisted upside - My dad was able to build a boat from demolished warfs after a storm that struck the coast in 76', he named it "Fredrick". It was a sea worthy vessel.
Happy Growing
