Accidentally butchered this banana!

Hello! I just got this Apple Manzano banana tree a while back. I got a cut corm from a HUGE sized banana tree! I decided since I’ve had luck in the past with cutting off a bit of the top of the corm to get it to start growing sooner than later. I guess b/c it is so big that my butcher knife was not a good enough tool to use. So I accidentally butchered it pretty badly! It seems to be okay so far but I’m a bit worried that I might have killed it! Do I have to cut it down further? Leave it alone? I had heard that you’re suppose to use some type of machete to cut down or cut the leaves off. What kind of machete works best? Thanks!

Looks fine... and a good cut for a plant in a container.

A sharp machete will work well ...or a real sharp knife will work also....a chainsaw will be needed in a few years..

Your doing great!!!!!:woohoonaner:

But I do have to ask...why are you cutting that plant?

Here’s an updated picture for you to see. Do you think that it will be alright? I don’t think it’s dead though. It just doesn’t look good. What do you think?

Thanks for that! It’s a bit of a relief! Whew! I was thinking I might have killed it stone dead! I haven’t been able to take the plant out and look for roots yet. I was also going to take a picture for you to see. I’ll have to try that later. However, I found a couple of pictures I received from the seller. It showed how this plant looked when I received it. I took some screenshots of the pictures. I desperately tried to post them both on this thread and then on my own gallery page. It didn’t work. I saw someone else on here that was able to take a screenshot and post it. I don’t get it. So sorry didn’t work. It had a ton of roots to start with. Thanks again for the help! I really appreciate it! I’ll get back to you later on...

Hey! Sorry I’m gettin back to you so late. I have been so busy didn’t even have time to go online! Anyway, I am a little apprehensive about digging up the plant. It’s now located in my house and the room it’s in doesn’t have much space to work in. Plus I do remember someone telling me not to dig it up and just let it do it’s own thing. I might consider it but not anytime soon! However, I do have a couple of pictures to show you what the plant looked like when I bought it. It did have tons of roots! Well, you’ll see!

I didn’t realize when I originally replied to this message that I missed a question you asked. I ended up cutting it at least twice because I stupidly thought it would cause the plant to start growing faster. You know it pretty much was just doing nothing. I wanted it to start growing the pseudostem faster. Oh well. Didn’t work out that way, did it! :ha: Hey, at least it’s still alive though! Plus I wanted to mention that I did end up getting a machete by the way! I got to admit that it’s so much fun to use! Makes trimming so much easier!
