Default Al.com: Guide to growing bananas on the Gulf Coast (Finch)

Here is an article I stumbled over the other day. It might have some good information for new members who live in the Gulf Coast region:

Thanks for posting that. Do you adhere to his advice of removing the suckers and all the trunks save 1 or 2? I never thought about saving the six footers as opposed to the tallest.

I learned something here and appreciate your posting the article because I had missed it.

I am pretty new to growing bananas myself (less than one year). I don't have any currently in the ground currently (because I am renting) so the plants are smaller right now.

I think in the future (when I have my own place) I will remove most of the suckers and pot them over winter (so no need to worry about them dying). I think the advice about saving the 6 footers (as opposed to the tallest) is good advice if you didn't want to spend the time to protect all of the plants.

Chance, how has your gros michel been doing this winter? Just wondering since I think you said you had it planted outside and we have pretty similar weather (I have mine potted inside).
