Question Magazines, economic news

Hello I'm loking for periodical connected with banana market (especially in Ecuador).
Maybe anyone knows where I can find such information.
Ideal variant is sopisco news but I can't afford the subscribtion to myself. So it will be great if someone can advice where I can find latest issues of sopisco or something like that.
Thank You

Wellll.....

Sopisco News : Newsletter entirely dedicated to the banana and reefer shipping industry. has some of the latest news from its newsletter, and they're now offering free trial subscriptions to the newsletter.

Other than that, if you read Spanish, the Publications section of the Ecuadorian Banana Export Association is pretty useful and has lots of stuff about commercialization of Ecuadorian bananas. In particular, the magazine "Bananotas" is excellent.

Generally, I just go to the big Haciendas and ask at the front desk if I need information, but then again I have the advantage of living in Ecuador.

Hope this helps!

With shishkin-les in the west and Raules in the east, I think there's enough coverage to start a banana-growing fad in Russia!

Lorax, thank you for useful information. Unfortunatelly sopisco is not hurring to subscribe me. AEBE site is really useful thing inspite of my lack of knowledge in spanish. Don't you know where I can find spot market prices ? If I am not mistaking exporters compose prices from Ecuadorian Official price and from Ecuadorian Spot Market price.

Thumbs up Re: Magazines, economical news

Actually, Shishkin-les, there's a daily price up in the left hand corner of the AEBE site. Banana prices in Ecuador are regulated by the government, so what you see there is the true per-case price for any banana you purchase in Ecuador.

The government has been regulating banana prices since about 2000, when the country dollarized, in order to maintain a fair return for small producers.

Today, it looks like the case-price is USD$ 4.70 and it tends to fluctuate weekly according to world demand. The highest I've ever seen it is around $7 per case, and the lowest was about $2.50

When that little box says "vigente" they're reporting the actual price (the "in force" price). If it ever says "estimado" they're estimating.

And if you want the AEBE site translated into English, try this link, which is Google-translated.

Best of luck. The Guayaquil Stock Exchange used to have the spot banana price as well, but it looks like they've stopped publishing it since the AEBE got into the act.
