| Banana Seed Germination Forum As one of the toughest seeds in the plant kingdom to figure out the keys to germination success with, this is a forum with banana seed germination tips. Please entitle posts like "Musa balbisiana," or "Musa cheesmani," etc. People would then post a reply under that heading, sharing their germination successes (and failures), what materials and methods they used, germination percentage, etc. |

Woo Hoo! First banana germination! Musa sikkimensis 'Darjeeling Giant'
Today has been a nice day for me...
It's raining, so work has been called off for the day, so I decided so set up my heatmat (finally) to help with germinating some seeds. When I went out to grab the tray that has been outside I found this little guy, Musa sikkimensis 'Darjeeling Giant'. Now I just have to keep it alive! ![]()

Sweet! Don't overwater when they are young, or you can easily kill it by rotting the stem. You have it in a peat pot, which is good. Plenty of sun, heat, and water when it starts to get a bit dry, and it will take off. Mine is really growing well right now, and I can't wait to plant it next spring. The cool thing about bananas is you really only need one to sprout in order to eventually have many. Good luck with it, and keep us updated on its progress!

Thanks Frank!
After you had posted your pics, I was really hoping I could get at least one to sprout, and hopefully thrive! I put the pot in one of my old terrariums with some other plants. I am really hoping it takes off in there!
