It survived - I think

I admit, my ability to germinate banana seeds has to rank at the very bottom of an extremely long list: one seed out of about 100.

The one that did germinate I let grow and grow, but it was in a shallow tray and had less than 2" of mix to grow in. It got close to 2" tall and I figured it was time to transplant it to a larger container.

Used premier, though a bit gritty potting mix, watered it well, moved the banana and, as is my SOP, watered it again so the roots would find it easier to adapt.

Alas, it looked like my operation was a complete failure. The plant had only one true leaf and from the day after transplant on, it looked yellow, then brown. Just my luck - I kill the one seedling that I've been able to get.

Then last night, when I looked at it, there appeared to be a green hair growing upward in the middle of the plant? Could it be a new leaf forming or just some cruel trick?

I checked this morning and that thin hair has doubled in size and is now a thick hair. There may be hope for it yet.

Last year, I was flummoxed because only 12 of 48 Angel Trumpet seeds germinated. I would be on Cloud Cuckoo if I can attain 25 percent with this monkey food!

Mike this is very interesting and I for one am rooting for you!! I haven't attempted banana seeds yet but it's on my list. I failed miserably with canna musafolia seeds last year. After a month I carefully took the soil off the top of them cause you know if there was a sprout down there I didn't want to mess it up! No such luck. I still had a tray full of hard black bullets!

Keep us updated!
