Soaking seeds in rotting banana?

Hi all!

I have another bunch of musa seed ordered and expect them to arrive in the next couple of days. I have been wondering whether instead of soaking them in warm water, scarring them, using stratification, or something else, it would help to squash an eating banana from the store, mix in the seeds and let the whole thing rot for a while. Has anyone tried this, and would it help to soften the seeds and get them to sprout faster? (Likewise I've considered softening them though the digestive trackt, but I'm not prepared to go down that road :ha: )

Thanks for any insights regarding this question!

Karl

Hi obdiah, thanks for you reply!
My current setup is quite alright I guess; I planned to put the soaked seeds in moist soil in a small plastic garden centre propagator, close to our soapstone fireplace which radiates heat for a long time and in a cycle. And then there is an led growlight on top of the plexiglass cover which adds both light for the small plants and a little extra heat in the propagator itself.

In the future I would like to build some decent setup like yours! Where do you get the heating element? Can they be salvaged from other electrics or do they need to be safe and waterresistant for the moist environment?

Also, do you just plant the seeds directly into the soil without soaking them or something?

I have searched eBay and can not find a suitable thermostat for any price. Can you give good search info or a link.

I just received some Ensete Glaucum seeds ,,,,I am going to give it a go too.

I do not see why it would not work because there are many plants which rely on help from their rotting fruit.
