Banana Seed Germination Forum As one of the toughest seeds in the plant kingdom to figure out the keys to germination success with, this is a forum with banana seed germination tips. Please entitle posts like "Musa balbisiana," or "Musa cheesmani," etc. People would then post a reply under that heading, sharing their germination successes (and failures), what materials and methods they used, germination percentage, etc.

Question Right Soil For Starting Banana Seed?

Hi, I've been using seed starter mix and peat pots for starting seed for years.
I think peat pots seem to stay too wet. Last year some even got moldy.Does
anyone use regular soil and perlite mix for seeds? Or would this cause seeds to fail. I was thinking if they dropped to the ground they would root. So why not a lite mix of perlite and bagged soil. What do you experienced people use
Thanks Lynda

I've always used just vermiculite, you eliminate any nasty bacteria and fungus, any excess water you can drain off leaving just the right amount.

Crystal Soil Mud-Water Beads

Ran across this on ebay and wondered if anyone uses it. It looks like a good medium for germination, cutting propagation and even growing in. I'm going to try some that will be expanded with nutrient rich water for some veggie plants, gots oodles of them, and see if it is good or bad. Watering is one of my forgets so it may same me some woes. Also going to try germinating seed to see what happens. Wish me luck.

50 50 perlite and peat or coco works good and is a sterile mix.

I've had a lot of success with coco pir. So much so to the point where I use it almost for everything. It works great for me for Musa and Ensete.
