I have some newly sprouted Musa velutina seedlings.

Do I need to be misting these little guys a lot? They seem to be turning brown. I've got these guys inside, and since it's summer, I figured the ambient humidity was enough. I have been keeping the potting mix (coir/peat based) a little dry, since last time I had Musa seedlings, they ended up with fungus on the potting mix and they all died
It's all a balancing act, isn't it?

Oooh brown sounds bad...

yes misting is good, but you gotta keep the ventilation going. why not try one of those mini cloche thingys, keeps the humidity really high but you can open the tops for ventilation

Velutinas are easy to sprout, so you should be able to try again in no time. At your latitude I would plant seeds outside (in shade) in community pots and leave them there. You will that way get the necessary temperature fluctuations naturally. When they sprout, plant them in individual pots. At the seedling-stage, leave them in the shade or part shade. As they grow bigger and get more extensive root-systems, put them in full sun.

Brown doesn't sound good! Erlend's advice is very good. Inside conditions are probably too cool and dry. The seedlings will stay small for a whole lot longer while inside. The fungus will like cool conditions much better than hot, so when you put them outside you shouldn't have to worry about that.
