Musa balbisiana x velutina

I put 10 of these in a little seed bag wrapped in a wet piece of paper towel (no prior soaking of the seeds) and set them on my windowsill and had 100% germination in about 2 weeks.

I had a picture of them all germinating, but I think I lost the picture and I planted them all so I can't take any more right now. I hope to grow at least one out to maturity here, maybe more though if I have room.

Just wondering, how do you get musa balbisiana and musa velutina to interbreed? I thought that seperate species could not do this.

many wild banana species cross very easily, it can be done by standard cross pollination.

Here is a picture of the one I have planted in the ground. Its coming out to be a rather nice looking plant in my opinion, it sort of has the form of a normal M. velutina seedling but with lots of red coloration all over the pseudostem, petioles and midribs (leaf margins too). Many of these seedlings are also coming out to be slightly variegated. The variegation hasn't been very strong on any one plant, but it has shown up to some degree on every leaf so far. Its kinda a slow grower, but its picking up speed as its getting established. I have a few more back in Colorado that showed more variegation, I'll get photos of those as soon as I visit them.
