Banana Seed Germination Forum As one of the toughest seeds in the plant kingdom to figure out the keys to germination success with, this is a forum with banana seed germination tips. Please entitle posts like "Musa balbisiana," or "Musa cheesmani," etc. People would then post a reply under that heading, sharing their germination successes (and failures), what materials and methods they used, germination percentage, etc.

Default Musa Baccarra

I have just managed to sprout 1 Musa Baccarra. From soaking to breaking the soil in under a month. Its a very thin little thing. Fingers crossed the other nine will follow.

The only place I saw selling this showed a picture of Musa mannii, there is no such species as "Musa baccara", now it could also have been a typographical error of Musa beccarii, and they put up the wrong picture (which is not surprising). This is one of things where you will have to wait until flowering to know for sure (unless you could post a nice picture of the seeds, but I realize they are all planted).

Gabe the seed came from sunshineseeds in germany. They also list beccarii.

Suppose it was too good to be true that I germinated a hard to find banana.

I tried to germinate it from Sunshine seeds, but had no luck. Looking back at pictures of the seed, I think I'll order some more and give it a try again. The seeds are REALLY different, and I almost didn't believe that they were musa seeds the first time I saw them. Kinda remind me of M.ingens with the smooth, shiny seed surface, and light brown color, but alot smaller, and more round than M. ingens. I wonder where these M.baccara seeds are supposed to be from.

Yeah, the seeds are different, but that's because they are Callimusa. Callimusa has barrell-shaped (sort of) seeds, as does Ingentimusa (Musa ingens). So it could be M. beccarii, or a variety of it. Let us know how it turns out!

M. beccarii (both varieties) seeds warty similar to M. balbisiana, the ones I've had aren't barrel shaped either like some other species (M. gracilis and M. violascens are pretty much cylindrical). It's definitely not M. beccarii, and not M. mannii either. The closest seed I have seen to it was a single seed I got in my packet of M. perrieri, it was unlike all the others and I have no clue what it was.
