Banana Seed Germination Forum As one of the toughest seeds in the plant kingdom to figure out the keys to germination success with, this is a forum with banana seed germination tips. Please entitle posts like "Musa balbisiana," or "Musa cheesmani," etc. People would then post a reply under that heading, sharing their germination successes (and failures), what materials and methods they used, germination percentage, etc.

Variegated Musa ornata var Purple Flower

Ok people I have been quiet about this cos as a variegated sprout there ain't much to shout about until it proves it can live.

I got this sprouted on 12th Mar '09 from a 3/50 lot. Bloody crappy weak sds again though listed as fresh by a reputable big sd vendor on line.

It's 2 mths old now and only 1 inch at p-stem height. So far the variegation looks good enough for me that it will stay. Poor guy ain't gonna get any fert cos I don't want the risk of it turning green. Mean rite?

Ensete Ventricosum from seed AKA "Spot". This was taken July of this year. He got quite a bit bigger. Taking up a lot of space in my family room right now.

WOW! I am so impressed! It really makes me want to try some. I don't have much luck with seeds, but haven't ever tried bananas from seed.

for me the easiest one is the musa nagensium... all i did was buy fresh seeds, soak them for 2 days, then i sowed them on pure peat-moss in a container with top on... and since the top of my aerogarden is warm, i set them on top of that. after like about a week and a half i saw movement!

That streaky leaved banana with the red stripe looks like a sikkimensis to me. Mine I grew from seed did that. Did it grow from seed? My sikkimensis I grew from seed is out in the yard, covered for winter. Wish it luck! It was 4 feet when fall hit.

OK, I couldn't resist a few of mine......
Ensete Superbum - germinated in March and this photo taken in November of the same year...one of my favorite seed grown varieties.

Musa Violacea - These things are like weeds once you get them germinated...I was able to keep them in 5 gallon pots and most of them flowered within 9 months and were prolific puppers.

Musella Lasiocarpa - Cold tolerant and showy flowers

Musa Paradisiaca - With some volunteer Bird of Paradise at base
