Banana Seed Germination Forum As one of the toughest seeds in the plant kingdom to figure out the keys to germination success with, this is a forum with banana seed germination tips. Please entitle posts like "Musa balbisiana," or "Musa cheesmani," etc. People would then post a reply under that heading, sharing their germination successes (and failures), what materials and methods they used, germination percentage, etc.

Default Ensete ventricosum Success!

It's apparent that most people go to considerably more effort to achieve good germination with their banana seed than I do. I ordered my seed from earlier in the year. The parcel arrived almost two months ago, and I felt bad as the weeks marched on that I hadn't sewn the first seed. June 15th saw twenty-four seeds finally planted in Pro-Mix BX and finished in coir. The tray sat unwatered past its initial misting apart from what scant rainfall provided. I kept it in deep partial shade among a stand of culinary ginger. Twenty-seven days later I had close to 13% germination, and I suspect that there will be more to follow. These are my first banana seedlings, so I'm super-stoked (not to mention eager to one day consume the rhizome as some Ethiopians still do)!
