Re: Ensete Ventricosum - Sprouting Now
Last week I knocked my grow light onto my Velutina and Ensete seedlings. :( The Velutina fell to the floor and it didn\'t make it. The Ensete immediately bruised and I thought it would die as well, but it has pulled through. :goteam: The darkness you see on the pstem was where it bruised and it has grown that much since the accident. The slight deformity and discoloration on the leaf tip was the bruise. Here is my darling Ensete today 1/14/09:

Re: Ensete Ventricosum - Sprouting Now
Good News! :woohoonaner: I have my second Ensete Ventricosum sprout. I just put it into a cup and we will see what happens. This is from the seeds I received from Zoloff the week of Thanksgiving and the second group I have attempted germination. :goteam:
The first sprout shown in this thread didn't make it, I am sad to say. But I have another chance now.....and hoping I will get a few more to sprout....and hoping I can continue taking pictures as it grows into a BIG ensete! :) ~JaNan |

Re: Ensete Ventricosum - Sprouting Now
Hi, i just ordered Ensete seeds, can't wait for them to arrive. I noticed your seed is on the surface of the soil. Does seed push up that way? Do you plant it the depth of the seed? I also ordered a heating matt. Appreciate any information you can give me.
Thanks Raggedy(Lynda) |
Re: Ensete Ventricosum - Sprouting Now
Raggedy - I put the seed under the peat about seed depth. I brushed the peat back to show the seed for the pictures. You can see in the first pictures the little mound behind the seed. When I transferred to the cup I just let it stay exposed. This second sprout the seed is completely covered. Patience will be the key factor. It was 6 weeks before I saw anything with the first sprout and have read it can take longer (for some people sooner - but that was not my experience). I recently acquired other types of banana seeds and 4 weeks have been the soonest to see anything. I try different methods for germination. I do soak all the seeds 24 to 48 hours before planting. I have scarified and haven't (with all the different types of seeds), and with these two sprouts neither were scarified. Hope this helps and Good Luck!
