Banana Seed Germination Forum As one of the toughest seeds in the plant kingdom to figure out the keys to germination success with, this is a forum with banana seed germination tips. Please entitle posts like "Musa balbisiana," or "Musa cheesmani," etc. People would then post a reply under that heading, sharing their germination successes (and failures), what materials and methods they used, germination percentage, etc.

Default Ensete Superbum & Kluay Pa

Hi all,
Hope you're all well. I have recently bought some Ensete Superbum and Ensete Kluay Pa seeds. I would firstly like to ask, what is the reccomended/best way to germinate these? Also, has anyone else mnaged to germinate these seeds, or do you own either of these plants? If so, any chance of some pictures? Thanks, take care

Pete

just getting mine ready for planting.

I am soaking mine for a couple of days in water laced with both GA3 and cape seed primer, I am planting E. Ventricosum, Superbum and Glaucum. if I get time I'll lor their progress.

I have tried E Ventricosum and found it easy from seed, 10/12 seeds.

I have tried E. Perrieri with no success.

good luck

Kluay pa seem to need temp fluctuations, and it took about a year of playing around to finally get a sprout.
If you have the large seed superbum form western India, then it should be pretty easy, and you might not even need temp fluctuations, if it is the small seeded superbum from Thailand("Rock Banana"), then you may have Kluay pa by a different name. I'm still confused if there is really two superbum type Ensetes from Thailand or not. There did seemed to be some seed size difference in the ones I ordered, but that might just be due to seed developement.
Good Luck!

Germinated some Ensete superbum a few months ago. Took 2-3 weeks, back when it was very hot, about 25% germination at that time, still waiting for the rest.

Thanks for your inputs people. So what would be the best way to try and germinate these seeds? Do they need temp. fluctuations? How deep should they be planted? Should they be soaked and/or nicked? If anyone can help with any of these, I would really appreciate it. Thanks, take care
