Banana Seed Germination Forum As one of the toughest seeds in the plant kingdom to figure out the keys to germination success with, this is a forum with banana seed germination tips. Please entitle posts like "Musa balbisiana," or "Musa cheesmani," etc. People would then post a reply under that heading, sharing their germination successes (and failures), what materials and methods they used, germination percentage, etc. |

![]() Got 10 of these seeds sprouted, and of course, I've managed to drop one, and that resulted in killing it. So now I've got 9 small nice nanas. Pretty easy seeds to start with, I must admit.
Here's some of them. ![]() ![]() |

![]() E. glaucum are very beautiful plants! That's definitely one of the plants on my 'list' of things to get once I have more space. Enjoy yours!

![]() Curious. Ensetes aren't famous suckerers or sprouters, like other bananas. But the same happened to Ante, when I sent him unknown red banana. It just rotted and then sprouted from the corm (unfortunatelly died later on...). It might be a sprout, so don't overwater and try to keep it in perfect conditions. Btw. 100% germination ratio is pretty good.

![]() Thanks! They've germinated within a month, both the heated patch of seeds and the check sample at ambient temperature, so really there's no big difference. The biggest is about 1 ft now.
![]() Good luck! |

![]() That's natural, actually. Bananas are 'monocarpic' meaning each stem will bloom once, then die back to the roots. Ensetes, in particular, do not pup as Musas do (musa and ensetes are genera of banana plants...basically groups containing various species). In Musas, the pups will take over after the main plant fruits/dies....but in Ensetes, the main plant just dies and the seeds from the fruit will spawn the next generation of plants.
Major props on getting an E. ventricosum to flower in a pot, though! They do have really neat inflorescences! And sorry if all that was excessively technical and unwarranted LOL.
