Banana Seed Germination Forum As one of the toughest seeds in the plant kingdom to figure out the keys to germination success with, this is a forum with banana seed germination tips. Please entitle posts like "Musa balbisiana," or "Musa cheesmani," etc. People would then post a reply under that heading, sharing their germination successes (and failures), what materials and methods they used, germination percentage, etc.

Default Ensete Germination

Hi all

Just doing this post to get a clear idea of how to germinate Ensete seeds.

Ensete Ventricosum - relatively easy to germinate, soak and then keep at around 25C - 30C.

Ensete Glauca - same as Ventricosum, although possibly benefiting from temp. fluctuations

Ensete Superbum - same as Ventricosum, although possibly benefiting from temp. fluctuations

Ensete Thai Superbum - same as Ventricosum, benefiting from temp. fluctuations

Ensete 'Kluay Pa' - same as Ventricosum, benefiting from temp. fluctuations

Ensete Perrierii - this is the one I'm unsure about. I've heard that it benefits from temp. fluctuations as well as a wet/dry cycle?

Please let me know what you think - these are just 'assumptions' I've made and some from information I've read, so there are probably MANY adjustments to be made.

Thanks, take care

Pete

Well it's not tried and tested, they're basically just assumptions I've made and going by some information I've read. If anyone feels there's a better way to germinate any of them, PLEASE SAY!!!!

Thanks

Pete

Here is my experience:

With ensete, and ensete ventricosum in particular, it's either all or nothing in terms of germination.

Sometimes whole batches refuse to germinate at all, while on other seed-batches they can all germinate in a week or two.

Generally these are easy to germinate at constant warm temps.
But if dormancy does set in, they are difficult to germinate.
