Banana Seed Germination Forum As one of the toughest seeds in the plant kingdom to figure out the keys to germination success with, this is a forum with banana seed germination tips. Please entitle posts like "Musa balbisiana," or "Musa cheesmani," etc. People would then post a reply under that heading, sharing their germination successes (and failures), what materials and methods they used, germination percentage, etc.

Default blood banana and pink velvet banana

I just put these 2 types of seeds up to germinate. I use the 'baggie' method where you put potting soil in a plastic baggie, get it damp like a sponge then put the seeds about halfway down. The baggies then live in a warm dark place until you see sprouts. Mine live in the closet with my stereo and satellite receiver. I put 6 seeds in each bag. Both seed types say that they can take up to 12 months to germinate, so now, we wait...

well, of the blood banana, that's all I had. I have 6 more of the pink velvet but figured I would save them as backup? Think I should go ahead and toss them in there?

My Pink Velvets only took about 3 weeks to germinate... but I DID get a low yield. Out of 50 seeds I only got 11 plants. The rest never germinated. I used the baggie method my first try.

glad to hear they germinate fairly quickly but bad news about the yield... fingers crossed that I get a couple plants.
