Alternating temps? Musa or ensete?
 

Hi all please can some one confirm what seeds need to be taken out of the heat at night to have an alternate cool over night temp?
Is it the musa or the ensetes???

I ask as some one was telling me that the Ensete glaucum need to have the temp difrance. and all my others constant heat. Ive been doing that for a couple of weeks now but after reading some people are saying its the musa that need the difrance???

Please can some one put me right I dont want to be doing things wrong and nothing grow its been a few weeks and nothings sprouting so any help or advice?

I know they can take a long time but if the temp thing is wrong then i dont have much luck so confused lol

ive got as follows:

Ensete glaucum x10
Musa Velutina x 10
Musa Zebrina x 10

so what needs the temp chance :bananas_b

Musas need temp. fluctations not Ensetes.

Yes musa needs temp fluctuations, a longer cool time than hot. I give mine 8 hours hot then 16 cool. I have a timer on my propagator.

cool, so i should take the two lots of musa out of the prop then and not the ensetes. Thanks for the info I thought somthing wasnt quite right.
unfortunatly for me I cheaked the ensete glacium seeds last night and i think they are no good i tried to look to see and it was just black mush inside and all just came away at the eye of the seed too. :-( So im rather disapointed now and fear that none of the seed will be any good as they all came from the same seller :-/ They told me they were fresh but obviosly were not so will not buy from them again.

I cant aford to get any new seed now for a while but think when i can down the line I will get them from rarepalmseeds I know there a little more expensive but im told there seed is much better and fresher so id rather pay more for fresh seed than take a chance again.

Musa needs fluctuation, but especially the colder-growing ones,...like basjoo, sikki, itinerans ect. Zebrina is a tropiscl one I'd say, but velutina might like fluctuations.

Ensetes for this matter don't!

Thank you for sharing temperature information! Wonder what is approximate cold and hot temperature in your propagator?
I've got few old Sikki seeds and would like to try and germinate them.

My maximum temperature is 28degrees and when it's off it cools down to room temperature. My room is unheated, so about 15 degrees.

It doesn' t matter that much provided there is a big difference between the high and low temperature.

I'm also beginning to think that sikkimensis needs a cool stratification period in the fridge. Always had good results doing this

I think you could be right about cold stratification! Because accidentally I left few seeds in zipped bag on my balcony which is unheated and where temperature falls down to 5-10 degrees, what was my surprise when during routine check I found big Sikki sprout there in the middle of winter :) Actually this was the only one I've manage to sprout so far, unfortunately it died later :P
What about Balbasiana I think it's require similar temperature variation conditions?
