Hey there guys. So it's been about 4 days with my new variegated Florida banana. I have notice the leaves seem to be drying up but in particular the part of the leaf that is white in particular. I can kind of see something similar in the guys photo above my posting.

I did give it some plant food (SHULTZ ALL PURPOSE) and it's in a EAST facing window which gives it good lighting. Yet, the white part of the leaves seems to be drying out quickly.

Any thoughts?

For me when the plant is small and new they are less robust especially indoors and not under supplemental lights.
This goes for my larger plants also.

Mine do the same thing but the plants always sort themselves out once it heats up and they get Real sunlight as I bring them outdoors.
This is the time where doting on your plant(me too) will do more harm than good.
Treat the plant just like your other plants.

Did you receive the plant bareroot?

So the plant is inside. Low humility is likely the problem. Use spray bottle to mist the plant 2 Xs a day with water. ... You can also mix Miracle Grow to use as a folar spray. Mix Miracle grow (or similar) using the small end of the scoop per directions for 1 gallon. This is your MG stock mix. Then pour the spray bottle 1/4 to 1/3 with MG stock mix and finish filling with water. The plant will/should absorb this within minutes. ... Be careful not to add water to the pot because the plant looks wilted. This can cause root rot from excess water. Mist the plant. Add water to the pot when the soil is slightly dry.

I also recommend that you get a long stem moisture meter to check the pot soil with.

If only the white areas are turning brown it is normal. All of my variegated bananas leaves turn brown in the white areas. Especially the 3rd and down leafs. If the new leaf or green of the variegation is turning brown then you may have an issue. I agree with misting. Misting and high humidity is always good for bananas. Variegated bananas alsways seem more sensitive to me. Especially during winter.

Also be careful watering. Especially in winter. I would cut back watering a little just in case and see what happens.

Cold Re: Variegated icecream!

I cannot thank you all enough. Such great advice! I think the problem may have been because I transplanted and it is now in better sun. I think she is just showing signs of stress from that.

While the white parts of the new leaf are drying up toward the top of the leaf - I can see the base of this same leaf looking healthy (even on the white parts of the base of this same new leaf).

I think she just needs to settle in her new home and continue growing. I can say that despite these white parts drying, she is really growing quickly so I guess that's good. This leaf continues to get bigger each day. So I think in a couple weeks when there are several fresh, clean and new leaves everything will be just fine.

I really appreciate the help here with this everything. You all are rock stars!

It's usually a water uptake issue and even though the seller sells the plants fully rooted they are not always performing properly and adding more water does not help.

Today is the first full day I have had the plant unboxed and situated and... good news... it is already growing. I can see a clear difference from when I took her out of the box versus now (24hrs later!).

So far so good, I am so happy with it! It is about 3.5ft tall now and growing!

A banana plant is fairly resilient and this seller has some rare cultivars so I'd recommend him to most experienced growers.
