This Sunday, May 22nd from 10am-4pm, the Manatee Rare Fruit Council will host its annual fruit tree sale in Palmetto, FL. There are 25 vendors and over 5000 fruit trees. Don from Going Bananas should be there as well as a couple of others selling banana plants.
It is a great event with lots of hard to find fruit trees. I plan to bring several species of Inga (ice cream bean), dwarf fiji coconut palms, as well as other fruiting plants - and probably lots of miracle fruit as our plants are loaded right now. Wayne Clifton (Dream Cherimoya/atemoya) will be there with some unusual stuff including Abiu. Website with info Facebook Event Page ![]() |

Miracle fruit... that's the one that makes lemons taste sweet, right? SO want one.

What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more. |

The sale was more crowded than any other year. About 2 hours in it seemed like half the trees had been sold. Going Bananas sold all but 9 plants. We sold most of our miracle fruit, and 3 gallon mangos. All of our grafted jackfruits, air layered lychees, and dwarf fiji coconuts sold. Most of the 7 gallon mangos came back home with us including Lemon Zest and Sweet Tart. Next year, we will keep everything other than coconuts in 3 gallon pots. I brought pitogo fruit to sample - which lasted under a minute
Everyone wanted dwarf bananas and plantains. Should have brought more of those. Brought miracle fruit and lemons for people to try which helped sell the miracle fruit plants which were blooming. Other vendors had some nice things - finger limes, rollinia, durian, garcinias, cinnamon trees, Euginia stipidada (my husband bought a large one). I ended up purchasing 2 banana plants - Pisang Raja and Red Iholena. This was the first year we bought stuff (very impulsive - oh well). Most importantly, it was so much fun to be there. We sort of dread all of the work involved in moving 200 fruit trees there, but once we unload we ended up having a great time. Where else can you spend 6 hours straight talking to other people who are passionate about fruit. We should have the final sales amount by the next club meeting in June. It would have been nice if forum members from here and tropicalfruitforum.com would have had name tags with their screen names on them ![]() |

A bit too far for me plus I need phyto to bring it back. Too bad though. I would have loved buying Pitogo...
