anyways, a couple of months after this post i accidentally broke off one of my mystery bananas with the side of my lawn mower. i sheard it flush with the top of the ground, shearing the top of the corm. i immediately planted it in a 5 gallon bucket, with a cracked bottom, with some old potting soil. its still growing and i am wondering now just what i am going to find when i go to plant it this spring. :ha:

mystery banana; has a heavy raspberry flavor with a hint of banana. seems to be a bit of a Cameleon tho, the next time i tasted them they had a heavy citrus flavor much like a manzano but heavier. i got these plants from a friend who has many fruit in one large mat. i have looked at this mat extensively and the look like all to be the same plant. with the fruit looking exactly the same also.

silk, thank you very much. i was hoping you might send me in a direction. the plants do not look anything like my manzanos, but then i have never had one of my manzanos fruit either. :ha: they are very thin skinned but i don't guess that makes a difference either,

banana identification will not let me do thumbnails.

If you prefer to wait until spring that's fine.

Weather looks good if the offer is still on the table.

No problem, message me with the pertinent details.

How did your potted Florida handle your winter?

Not well, was holding out hope that it was gonna come out of dormancy late but looks like corm rotted out.

The nice thing about Florida is the growing point usually remains in great condition long after the corm rots outs completely but the sooner it gets cleaned up the sooner it can get back to growing.

The main thing is to figure out a suitable substrate that works well in your conditions and once you get to that point it'll become easy. I'm hoping you get it figured out with this next Florida so when I ship some to other members they can learn from you.

I don't know what that is but I'll follow your posts.

Doesn't Arizona have sand in the deserts or is that just Nevada?

They look like little rocks. Are they solid or airy like perlite?

It’s a mix consisting of pumice, zeolite, lava rock, and fertilizer.

These posts are interested on how to grow the seeds but I thought originally it was a place to buy some Blue Java Seeds. Are there any available?

Originally it was, but after reading some of the early posts I realized being the first member to sell seeds from cultivars wasn't going to be as easy as expected. There's a lot of basic information about these seeds that has to be learned so that misinformation can quickly be corrected. It will be much easier for me to let someone else do the teaching and be the first seller and when that's taken care of I will be happy to make my hybrid seeds available.

Do you have any interest in growing a Florida or A'ea'e?

Does anyone know how much moisture this mix can hold?

Yeah, the aeration clearly looks to be high. High aeration needs to be balanced with high moisture.

Re: Seeds From Blue Java Ice Cream Bananas

According to Lechuza PON's website it can also retain up to 40% of its volume in water. I have been told that Alocasias are prone to root rot but I haven't had any issues with them using Pon. I think Musa florida and manini would be easier to take care of using this. I'm experimenting with a recovering florida. For anyone what wants to know, my sugarcane grew faster in Pon than in a 60/40 garden soil perlite mix.

Good start.

Condensation on the inside of the pot is a good sign.

I am in New Hampshire and would be interested in trying to grow from seed. I have been able you start from seed and successfully grow Ensete glaucum, superbum, ventricosum.

The one in my picture was from seed. Glaucum.

I like the challenge!

If you're interesting in growing seeds from a Blue Java Ice Cream Banana post your zip code (US48 only) and I'll message you when we have extra seeds available. Thanks

Members that are successful growing these seeds and also post photos will have access to seeds from others cultivars we pollinate.

Just harvested a large Blue Java bunch that was hand pollinated.

Ice cream banana has seeds when it is pollinated

Ice cream is seedless banana when not pollinated

Ice cream banana does not self-pollinate

I am interested in variegated blue java seeds, are they available now? I live in Miami, FL 33134

Hello, my name is Lautaro, and I'm from Argentina. I'm just starting out with banana breeding and genetic improvement, and I began to see what was possible thanks to photos on this forum. So, first of all, thank you very much for these posts. Now, my question is, has anyone managed to see the plants and fruits grown from these seeds? Do you have anything to post? I'm very curious about what could have come of it. For now, I only have Bluggoe to pollinate with M. ornata. This will be my first test with an edible banana, and luckily, it also seems to be partially fertile, since it's from the ABB group, like Blue Java.
