Pisang Ceylon (formerly Pisang Klotek) for sale
I have Pisang Ceylon banana plants for sale. I bought a single pup from forum member Momoese back in 2008 and now have a garden full of them in various states of bloom. This variety is considered one of the best tasting bananas in cultivation.

Re: Pisang Ceylon (formerly Pisang Klotek) for sale
It has been renamed? I heard some say it is exactly like Pisang ceylon and others say Misi luki. I sent someone an indian mysore, Klotek, and ceylon to compare all three

Re: Pisang Ceylon (formerly Pisang Klotek) for sale
If memory serves me correctly, Momoese and a few other members concluded that they were one in the same based on taste and aesthetics of the fruit.

Re: Pisang Ceylon (formerly Pisang Klotek) for sale
Pisang Ceylon and Pisang Klotek are both in the Mysore group. The former is also referred to as "Improved Mysore" while the latter is not.
If Momoese is the source then I'd believe the claim they are Mysore but nothing beyond that. Also, I will agree that Mysore have an excellent flavor for my tastes -- but I'll disagree about them being the best, simply because there are so many different banana tastes (not to mention tastes of other fruits) I couldn't decide. As for the price of $40-$60, that is ridiculous. I can understand members here paying shipping to obtain/trade varieties and perhaps some extra $$ for something hard to find, but not for Mysore which are occasionally offered at Home Depot in southern CA. In fact, at present I have some Mysore pups that I'll be throwing away in a few weeks but if someone in SoCal wants them just send a PM and I'll pot them up until you are ready to pick them up. Be warned ... you will be challenged to a game of miniature golf on our course through the fruit trees! |
Re: Pisang Ceylon (formerly Pisang Klotek) for sale
You can't say they are the same because they are Mysore. Mysores are not all the same. The varieties are very different. By ridiculous logic like that you might as well say there is only one type of Cavendish.

As discussed elsewhere, "Sword pup" and "water pup" are marketing terms. Either will develop into a fine plant if properly cared for. I recall Momoese's plant. I believe he obtained it from a local nursery. In that case it would have been distributed by La Verne's (see previous post). I also recall the discussion and the consensus was Mysore and no agreement on Improved Mysore. If you're having a difficult time finding a banana plant I'd recommend checking with TyTaylor and HMelendez -- the banana police! |

Re: Pisang Ceylon (formerly Pisang Klotek) for sale
Hmmm a debate :) I have a Pisang Ceylon & a Mysore and they look destintivly different. Sources were Ty & Merce. The Pisang Ceylon leaves are more narrow and elongated, Mysore are big and fat leaves. Both are quite young and I'm sure will change as the grow.
Happy growing. Darla |
Re: Pisang Ceylon (formerly Pisang Klotek) for sale
I have Mysore from India and it is vastly different from Pisang Ceylon.

Re: Pisang Ceylon (formerly Pisang Klotek) for sale
Water suckers are suckers with wide adult type leaves. Sword suckers have narrow strip leaves that grow tall before widening. Pretty basic stuff. Richard argues the strangest things. Tried telling me Pisang Ceylon tops out at 7 feet once .

Re: Pisang Ceylon (formerly Pisang Klotek) for sale
I have all 3. Ceylon, Mysore, and Klotek.
Ceylon and Klotek seem to be different, but Klotek and Mysore are looking Identical so far. That is info based on plant looks. We'll see about fruit next year. |
Re: Pisang Ceylon (formerly Pisang Klotek) for sale
The Pisang Klotek pup I got was one of two that a guy brought it back from Sri Lanka, so he said anyway. He traveled the world to bring back strange plants/seeds etc. This was before heavy restrictions were in place. Ive seen the photos of the places/tribes he's visited and plants he's collected over the years. He had a small nursery on Fairfax in Hollywood where he was propagating and selling rare plants that he collected in the wild. He also sold some common variety stuff that could be found at any big box store. The other plant went to someone in the Hollywood Hills and I've lost contact that person so no idea if it survived or not.
It is my personal favorite of all the bananas I've grown. You can see the list in my profile. That's about all I can contribute. And yes I'm still growing PK, lots of it, as well as DB, FHIA 18, and Dwarf Namwah. |
