Musa Tannee on eBay

I forget my original source, maybe Steve (Varig8), but I've had this since 2010 or maybe 2009 and finally decided to take a couple of pups off today. One is going in my greenhouse as a backup (too large to ship anyways) and the other I just put up on eBay, for those who may be interested:

Musa Banana "TA Nee" or "Tannee" RARE Vareigated | eBay

Ideally, this would go to a California buyer or to someone willing to pay to keep it intact. Shipping details are described in the auction.

Re: Musa Tannee on eBay

I think I paid even more than that for my original and it was maybe 18" tall. Even just the corm is a good deal at this starting price, IMO.

Re: Musa Tannee on eBay

I spent about $1,000 buying about 5 Ae Ae bananas before finally giving up on those (too cold here, even the summer nights) and this is a decent compromise without fruit satisfaction.

Re: Musa Tannee on eBay

The Tannee produces an inedible banana and tolerates cold weather much better. I don't believe it's variegation is as nice as the Ae Ae either, but it's a decent substitute for my climate.

Re: Musa Tannee on eBay

I have been growing Tanee for many years and have found it to be highly variable in its variegation going from a highly variegated plant to a new generation of pups all green. Then when I was about to get rid of the whole mat it sent up a beautifully variegated plant even though cultural conditions are all the same. In my opinion the aeae is much nicer and more stable but is very finicky in its growing condiiton being highly sensitive to cold and excess water.

Re: Musa Tannee on eBay

I've been growing this for a few years and they have all had about the same amount of variegation but none have been as pretty as Ae Ae (except all or better than my Ae Ae that died, LOL). Mine have taken to the mid-20s and come back the following spring.

Re: Musa Tannee on eBay

OFF topic from Tanee.....but is anyone in a temperate climate that has grown an AE AE and has failed I would like to know the circumstances of its demise.

Age,
Seasons cycled in your zone
Height
Average winter temps while storing.
Soil/media structure,
Basement Storage????

Did you try to Grow this plant in the winter or did you just to hold it over for the winter
summer temps= winter temps
Container size.-----

Any info will help ..:08:
