You might want to think about waiting till Mid-May since they are very cold sensitive..

Yeah .... mine died back this winter. The main stalk has pretty much rotted out luckily it sent me a pup.

The VC is cold pretty sensitive. This is offset by the short cycle to get fruit. Works for farmers in Georgia, USA. They plant 2 to 3 ft pups.

To be successful further north you have to grow out big pups in the greenhouse or at home and put them out after last danger of frost.
