Probably a seeded ornamental but here you go. They apparently have 1 available.

I'm still looking for a Ensete glaucum. Seedlings would be fine too! I just want once again.

Bump for post to follow as I would be interested as well.

Seems odd that seeds are easy to come by, but not a live plant if they are easy to germinate....

I looked at Urban tropicals but they wanted $40 + shipping for a 2x2 inch pot. I'm not paying that much for a tiny plant.

I've tried planting glaucum seeds many times with no luck but I did get some fresh seeds for ensete ventricosum and I have sprouts!!!!! I'm very excited.

Have some glaucum seeds coming. Just have to give them a try. I wonder if they are more finicky to germinate? I have a greenhouse that I germinate palm seeds in so why not try this since no one sells them?

I have bought many glaucum seeds with no results. I think it has to do with how fresh they are. I'm starting some Ensete ventricosum seeds that I got from this forum and I actually got a banana with seeds. I've soaked & planted them and have about 15 or so sprouted in a couple weeks. I wish I could find some ensete galucum like that. I would be so happy.

Take a look at the bottom of this thread for some photos.

Where can I get fresh ensete seeds?

I hope to get some seeds by this winter. I also plan to try and propagate the corm I really love how this plant looks! I also had trouble germinating them. I finally had about 10 that I got to germinate using embryo rescue. I lost a few to contamination and gave a couple away. Just wanted the 1. I just uploaded some pictures of it to my flikr account. The flikr link is on my website.

I would love some fresh ones if you have any. I've had 2 of these plants. I had one flower a couple years ago and then it died. I tried the corm thing with no success and my seeds were not mature. I live in NH so my season is quite short. Keep me in mind if you get some fresh seeds please.

I agree $40 is expensive for a 2x2 potted plant, but it is 7” deep so the roots should be very developed. I haven’t bought a banana from them but I did get a Heliconia rostrata a week ago that has all sorts of roots, two separate eyes and one has already started to put out new growth.

On the other hand the pot it came in was very annoying as it had a round bottom and was unable to sit upright on its own so I had to repot the day it arrived and I normally like to wait a few days to plant or repot

Would be nice if people acknowledged where they got material, especially if given for free. And keep donor informed of progress and experience in growing. Idea is we all share and learn from what others do, successfully or not. Most of what I have learned actually has been from my mistakes.
A note for those germinating ensete seeds. I had always been told that fresh seeds were the secret. Last year I had lots of seeds and gave them away after junking what looked like second rate seeds. Junked after a few months in the greenhouse into a compost pile, which eventually wound up in a bucket used as a filler for pro-mix. Imagine my surprise this week when I started to weed a mess of greenery from a plant I had potted up - and found that the "weeds" were ensete - from seeds that had first cooked in an empty greenhouse, then sat for a few months in compost, and then wound up in a well tended pot. Germination was about 25 days. No idea of percent, but it had to be huge as the "weeds" are numerous and the original junk was not that much - and who knows how many seeds still sit in the compost pile.
Soooo, "fresh" seeds seems to be another urban myth. Or maybe the seeds first need to be dry cooked for a few months (little or no soil and no water), then dampened and then planted ????

I did get some glaucum seeds last year from a seller on Etsy from India. It took a couple months but I did get them. 50 seeds and 4 sprouted. They are about 6" high right now and struggling with the short winter days in NH. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they make it.

As for getting fresh seeds I received some E, ventricosum from pjkfarm and had great success germinating. Still trying to keep them growing but it is a challenge in the winter. This thread shows the germination.

Where can I get fresh ensete seeds?

The breaking down of materials in a compost pile raises the temperature anywhere between 120F to 170F. I would guess that high temp for a few days is what kick started your seed's germination. Just my two cents.
