I'd like to give away some more variegated bananas but I need a more interesting format than giving it to the first person to who just posted their zip code.

Thank you and I made a note to add some more seeds to your order but any variegated bananas I give away here is done randomly. If you are interested in buying pups you can contact me on Instagram. I can't guarantee I'll have the time to do it but I would try.

I missed out on the last Manini giveaway, but would certainly love to have one on the next round of giveaways.

I'd be interested in getting some for the botanic garden for which I am the Horticulture Manager-Houston Botanic Garden. We are Zone 9b, so generally, bananas overwinter well here. I can PM you, if you like. Thanks!

I had about 15 sprout from roughly 40 seeds? I kept about three I thought were most desirable and vigorous. It’s funny because some of the seedlings first two or three leaves would be solid green and then the next leaves will be completely variegated and stay that way. I purchased some last summer that I threw in my dwarf Brazilian mat and they sprouted in early May this year.

That's a cool story. How cold did your winter get in Georgia?

These seeds will grow just about anywhere they land, we've got them growing like weeds.

Even the all green seedlings will produce variegated pups but picking out the best is a good way to keep the herd small.

It got down to 20 degrees twice in February and the mid twenties a few times in January. That’s with a couple of very light snow flurries.

Wow, I didn't know banana seeds would be viable after freezing.

The mat that the seeds were throw in were lightly covered with grass clippings and straw in hopes of keeping the base of the Dwarf Brazilian pstem warm. Pretty much standard procedure for any of my mature edible bananas that I leave outdoors.

Having the seeds sprout was just a pleasant surprise in the spring. I pulled back the straw and grass at the end of March and by early may I noticed some out of place banana seedlings popping up in the mat. That’s basically all that it took to be viable. Incredible!
