Free Ice Cream Banana pups

I have several pups for pickup free in Indian Rocks Beach, FL (Pinellas County).

The first fruit from this banana mat have just been harvested, The variety has been identified here on the forum as Ice Cream. The fruit is small, about 4 inches long with thin skin and a sweet banana flavor.

Here are some pictures of the fruits. Let me know.

I wished I lived in FL. I'd love to have one. Would you consider shipping if I paid?

Now that I see it bitten into it looks more like a Namwah. Weird. What is the texture like? Mushy/fluffy or more firm and rubbery? Slight red delicious apple taste or none?

That is confusing. First pictures look blue Java last 2 look namwah.

LOL, Oh well, I guess banana varieties can be tricky to pin down.

The texture is very smooth, firm and the taste is rather vanilla-like and sweet.

Just ate three for breakfast!

Yes, Tuesday would work for me.

Pups are just outside my garden door, in the ground, getting the most of our lovely rain these days.

Thank you for offering to share plants. Unfortunately, I can't take any more bananas as my space is too limited. HOA is watching... :waving:

I have received several requests to ship. I
Here are the instructions suggested to me:

Packing in wet paper towels, enclosed inside a plastic bag , then into a USPS box.
Size: 4 inches , root mat cut in a square.

Any thing else on packing?

My big worry is digging them as the roots seems very thick and hard to dig through. I almost thinking a saw would do me better...

Yeah that sounds much more like Namwah. They are surprisingly bluish though. They just don't get that color where I live. Namwahs strike me as much sweeter than Ice Cream, but I wouldn't describe either as vanilla-like. I know taste can differ based on location though.

There are quite a few, so no problem coming by on Tuesday.

Something I found curious. The peel turns gray minutes after removing it from the banana.

As for what it tastes like, vanilla or apple I would guess that's pretty subjective. I don't eat many apples, but I like them tart and these bananas are much closer to vanilla than apple to me. Sweet without being overwhelming, firm but not hard even when very ripe. A real treat! :bananas_b

Re: Free Ice Cream Banana pups

Hi! I have a question about the baby suckers I cut off my banana plants. They seem to be losing all of their leaves - is that normal? I took off 7 suckers: 4 larger, 3 small. The 3 small ones look like they may have died, but the 4 larger ones look good, other than the fact that their leaves are dieing.

Also, I cut my first fruit off and hung it today. Is there an average amount of time that it takes them to ripen once cut? The whole bunch has about 200 or more bananas on it!

And my last question is: after removing all the suckers, the remaining bunch of bananas on the last banana plant has some brown spots at the ends of 3-4 bananas - is that something that I worry about?

I'm still trying to figure out how to attach pictures here.

Thanks!

I harvested my bananas bunch on June 13 and on the 16th the whole bunch was yellow and ripe. It may depend on where you hang them, whether it's rather warm or cool.

Thanks! I have the bunch hanging outside under the lanai. Should I ripen them inside where its cooler?
