Default Blackening and mold- Help!

Got a big problem with one of my pisang ceylon and one of my thousand fingers. The trunk seems to be rotting. Part of it turns black and then white mold appears. Any idea or suggestions? I would hate to lose them as I had a lot of trouble finding them up her in canada. The plants are inside, in my house. The soil is dry, no direct light ant humidity is between 40-50. I can't put a picture for now, so Thanks for your help.

Many of my plants when I bring them indoors will lose the outside layer of leaves. This outside layer of will in turn darken and dry up/peel away from the main stem. However this happens when they are actively growing also. This is normal.

There is also a lot of water in the stem and dead leaf sheaths surrounding the main stem this is a perfect place for mold to grow which is also normal when the conditions are right. The higher humidity will contribute to mold also

But if this alarms you and becomes too unsightly just wipe the mold off and if possible trim the outside black spent leaf layers carefully off. If you notice the outside leaves are a little spongy and full of water, those are the ones you can trim.

Post a pic once you figure how to.
.
Does it look somewhat like this?

One of my basjoo pups I am overwintering inside started having black, and a bit of mold. I had to carefully peel away the black part to let in some air and dry it out. So far it is recovering. Might be from water being trapped in the outer layers, and too little air movement. I have a fan going in the room now.

I'll put the fan more often then. I peeled one of them but there's one that I peeled to ifs max. I think I'll cut it and hope it grows back.
