Big Dipper Barter
Hi everyone,
I wanted to reach out to all of the banana lovers out there and see if anyone would like to do some plant trading. I just got started last year so I do not have too much excess plant material that needs pruned back yet. But what I do have an abundance of is Colocasia Big Dipper that I got from Plant Delights Nursery. I originally paid $20.00 per pot for a little plant. Now I have many that are at least that size or larger. I am not sure what the protocol is to conduct a trade or if I need some kind of license to do it. I certainly do not want to do anything unlawful. If I am missing the mark here, please will someone with more wisdom kindly advise. Here are some of the plants that are on my current wish list. Bananas SH 3640 Baccarii Coccinea Ginger Alpinia Nutans (narrow or wide) Alipinia Zerumbet (not variegated) Curcuma (almost any kind would be fun) Hedychium (Dr. Moy or Butterscotch, or others with big flowers) Canna Bird of Paradise, Intrigue or Similar Heliconia (preferable less than 8’ mature height and tolerates some shade) New Zealand Flax (looks cool, but I have no clue if it grows well in sw florida) Thanks for looking. Have an awesome day. |

Re: Big Dipper Barter
I'm open to a trade and I do have a few that are on your list. Besides the colocasia what else do you have to offer. Especially, (but certainly not limited to) what bananas?

Re: Big Dipper Barter
In regards to bananas, I only have a few. I got my start last year with tissue culture plants. They have not developed into large mats however I might be able to get a pup off one or two of them. Here is are my current varieties though:
Ice cream (i hope?? From going bananas) Gros Michel (from a very nice person in Alabama) Kandrain Double mahoi Pisang raja Raja puri I do also have quite a few canna lilies. I could probably dig up a few for a good home. These quantities are also a bit limited. Musifolia Russian Red Wyoming Dawn Pink Robert kent (I believe, it was a goof in what was sent to me) Everything else hasn't grown enough yet for excess to give away. But as time goes by, I'll get there and then I can share with everyone. |

Re: Big Dipper Barter
Thank you. How is your Gros Michel doing? I left a couple in the ground to see how well they do during the winter months. So far so good, but it has been mild so far. I have one banana, about 8-10 feet tall that has a new leaf about a foot and a half long that should unfurl soon. I brought it with me when I moved here from Pensacola. I don't know the name and it drives me crazy. How many bananas are there that would do so well in my area. Some day I hope to identify it.
We can do some trading. PM me |

Re: Big Dipper Barter
No takers yet on the Colocasia Big Dipper!
If anybody has SH 3640, FHIA 3 or Coccinea, I still have plants. |
