Beware of Rip Offs from Members

I just wanted everyone to know to beware of certain people, who will send you the wrong banana, or simply not pay, in order to get what they want. I have had two bad experiences so far here on bananas.org. The first person surprised me, being she is a regular member here, but I have gotten nothing but bs and excuses from her. That person is Hdynad. We did a trade a while back where I gave her an authentic Black Thai in return for a so called DM highgate. Well she sent me an dwarf Orinoco, and then proceeded to lie lie lie about it. She claimed she got it from Keith and is proven, despite it looking nothing like highgate. I contacted her and assumed the better for her, thinking perhaps she mixed up a pup when she sent it. However, she claimed it is the real thing despite it being completely green, and identical to an Orinoco. She swore its real, so I gave her the benefit of the doubt and waited for it to flower to confirm. Well, this year it flowered and its just what I thought it is, a dwarf Orinoco. So now its obvious she is lying, and has refused to do anything more but send me another D. Orinoco. So traders beware!

Th other person is another I am surprised about. I sent this person 2 tall orinocos, and they have yet to make payment. I figured since this person has clout on here, they would pay, so I sent them right out. I am not going to reveal who it is yet, just in case of possible sickness, or something serious that came up. Its been 2 weeks, and if payment is not made soon, then I will reveal who they are.

Folks, if your going to do business here, keep your effing word. People better be lucky I am not crazy enough to show up at your doorstep.

I after reading this I hesitated as to even respond. I have been a member of Bannanas.org for quite a while. I have purchase from less than a hand full of people since the beginning and every one of them has sent me a true to variety banana including the DGMH sent from Keith. I don't even grow Orinoco. I have sold countless real blue Java and other banana varieties mostly local and by request 0nly so you can see 1st hand the mother plant and fruit. I am not going to get into a debate, and don't know what happened on that end and as for thai black I ordered off eBay from one of the org members of which I will not mention that sells on line. I have had noting but positive experiences here and it saddens me with the lashing out.not once has anybody ever said anything negative about their dealings and I am appalled by the lashing out. My work has kept me busy and I have no time to devote to surfing the thread as much as I use to . I will continue my friendships and connections that I have developed through the org. but that is it. this will more that likely be my last post on this thread. i wish everybody happy growing,
sincerely,

Darla

Your full of sh!t!
Your using your time here as evidence of character?
Anyone with a decerning mind would be able to tell that even mentioning it is a red flag.
There is no such thing as an all green GM Highgate. I fruited what you gave me just recently, and it'd a dwarf Orinoco! I am letting people know about your trickery, not lashing out. Do you think I was going to just let you get away with deceiving me? I think not!

This is a funny Topic cuz.. I found a guy on Craigslist trying to hype up Orinoco's and some super cooking Banana.. and selling them for 55 bucks a pup.. Obviously I sent the guy an email whoever it may be.. I think Orinoco corm should all be dug up and fed to pigs.. but that's just me..

As for buying and selling I've never had a problem with any member. Of course I've traded materails w/ other member's as well.. Hoping to take a roadtrip soon and see a friendly face while we dig up some pups.. Since He still has them, and I currently do not. Funny how some things work themselves out.

I've bought, traded and donated but never sold. Always had a great experience but eventually it happens to everyone.

I've been starting to sell bananas to members here.
I've spent thousands of my hard earned dollars, thousands of hours of my time, and literal hard work and sweat on this hobby to get to this point, all by myself.

It may take a long time to simply break even but my end goal is to eventually make this hobby into a business for myself.
I'm really passionate about this hobby and I just want people to know that I'm the real deal.

Here is a picture of a Dwarf Red pup I just sold.

To Aaron's point, I don't send anything unless I receive payment first. No 'half-payments' either.
I will gladly send a picture of exactly what I'm selling.

What's with the Orinoco rant? The super cooking banana part might be a little exaggerated sure but they are delicious when ripe, much better than store bought cavendish. Pretty much the easiest bananas to grow even in poor soil and they're cold hardy. Can't beat that imo

I too have had great experiences with everyone else on bananas.org. I never had a problem with any trades before. She had been on long enough, and probably knows damn well, that what she gave me is not a Gm highgate. She just kept doubling down on her lies. I actually believed it was possible she had some rare version, till it flowered. So I gave her the benefit of the doubt, and was quite patient through it all, just to make sure I was right. She made zero attempts to right the wrong, and would only keep saying it is a Gm. There is no such thing as a Gm that looks identical to an Orinoco. I told her it looks nothing like one, but she kept saying that it was proven and she had gotten bunches off of it.
When I thought I'd had given someone on here the wrong thing, I made an attempt to make it right. If you give someone something wrong by mistake, you need to make it right as it's your mistake. Her response was to say to the effect that " oh, I could give you another, but it would just be the same". No attempts were made to offer another type. Instead she kept saying how Gabe said it is a Gm, and Keith gave it to her, so she is already looking to deflect blame. She knows damn well she mislead me.

That is the interesting part how people have different tastes. Personally I think Orinoco, and in particular the dwarf version is a crap banana. Reason is the dwarf can have some serious corking, with tough inedible parts. On top of that, its very mealy. I think the really ripe bananas taste like a sickly artificially sweet banana. The only way to eat is is to cook it green like a potato in my opinion. Even so, it's not that great. At least she could have sent me a Cavendish.
I do think its worth growing for some reasons you mentioned. Its another easy to grow food source so it has value for that reason alone.

Does anyone know of a legitimate medium size GM? Big Mike is a bit too much to handle but a medium size one would be great. This thread has perked my interest in this variety. I'm in Florida.

I'm not sure about the name.

My understanding is that there are three varients of GM: a small one that makes smaller bananas, a medium size one that makes full size bananas, and Gros Michel aka "Big Mike" that is the tallest and make full size bannas. I'm interested in the medium size one.

Note: Maybe its the Cocos version.

Aarontt, can you post some pictures of the plant? Right now we have a he said she said situation with no proof. I think if you are going to come on here and make allegations that you should provide some proof. Let the experts here be the judge and jury and decide what you have.

Bill

Not pretty, but that is because of purposeful neglect. I will be digging this out, along with another that is planted right next to it.
