Threadjack! LOL. Valor, can start a thread about your Nino with some pics? Full size, with flower, and with nanners? I have an unknown dwarf that I have been trying to identify and I suspect it may be a Dwarf Nino but not sure. Thanks.

LOL I know I'll stop XD

I don't have a full size Niņo because it is very cold sensitive and keeps dying back. The 1st year was during the Texas Winter Storm everything died back but last year was a 'normal' winter here and it still died back. I'm also growing it in a whiskey barrel not on the ground.

All I can tell you is that it has a very unique Lime Green color unlike any other Banana. Also has some spotting on the stem and open petioles like Cavendish which makes sense since it's AA.

Here are some pictures. You can see the difference in color.
Triple digit heat with no shade but they are powering through it.

I actually believed it was possible she had some rare version, till it flowered. So I gave her the benefit of the doubt, and was quite patient through it all, just to make sure I was right. She made zero attempts to right the wrong, and would only keep saying it is a Gm. There is no such thing as a Gm that looks identical to an Orinoco. I told her it looks nothing like one, but she kept saying that it was proven and she had gotten bunches off of it.
When I thought I'd had given someone on here the wrong thing, I made an attempt to make it right. If you give someone something wrong by mistake, you need to make it right as it's your mistake. Her response was to say to the effect that " oh, I could give you another, but it would just be the same". No attempts were made to offer another type. Instead she kept saying how Gabe said it is a Gm, and Keith gave it to her, so she is already looking to deflect blame. She knows damn well she mislead me.
Just to maybe add a bit of info to this thread...Aaron and I made a trade last summer (I believe I gave him a Pisang Ceylon in exchange for the supposed GM Highgate). I knew the Highgate hadn't fruited for him yet but was okay with that since he said he had gotten it from a longtime member here. As it grew it became clear that it was definitely not a GM as it looked nothing like my full size Gros Michel. It was clearly either a Namwah or Orinoco and I definitely don't need any more of either of those so I dug it up.

I can't say enough good things about Aaron though, we've made several trades since then and he has gone well out of his way to make things right.

any time you buy or trade bananas from the members here you take your chances.

just bought a cardoba plantain from a member here. what he doesnt know is i bought a cardaba plantain from someone here before. from nere the tampa area and i do not know for sure, but i may have bought it from him. but i was impressed by that banana enough to know it when i see it. is why i am doing this one again.

i am not sure this member wants to be seen doing business with me so i am being carefull.

I normally don't post to threads... But I do sell quite a few bananas, and buy wayy too many.
I have met or dealt with so many people off of here over the years.

I'm just gonna say, "Sh*t happens"....

To honk my own horn; I sell 100% true to type plants!... Unless they're not.. lol
What I mean is, that I'm human. I can screw up. And so do others.
I can mix up a sucker.
Or I got a plant from someone that screwed up & it perpetuates down the line.. line of possession issues... Its not done maliciously or to screw you over...

I will let everyone on here know something!
I have bought banana plants from basically every BIG name banana person out there. & all of you guys, too.

EVERY SINGLE ONE, I won't call out direct names, of those well known collectors & sellers has a one point sold or given me a plant that was NOT TRUE TO TYPE...

That is a fact that I go by.
Its not done on purpose. Nobody wants to lose business. But! "Sh*t Happens"

Bananas are not easy plants to deal with, they're all similar enough that you can have 2 on the counter, turn to piss, and forget what was what! "oh, yeah williams was on the right"... There where 3 banana plants on the counter! LOL

I don't know if you ever received a banana plant from me but I'm sure I've never sent the wrong plant to anyone, there are far too many protocols in place for a mistake to happen.

Sometimes a seller can unintentionally send the wrong plant but it can also be done intentionally.

Two situations that stand out most to me.

The first was a member selling an SH-3640 and their photo was clearly identifiable but not as an SH-3640. I posted that it was not an SH-3640 and then they posted that it was 100% an SH-3640 because they got it and an FHIA-02 from a reputable seller on the forum.

Now what made that reply interesting was that their SH-3640 photo was actually a photo of an FHIA-02 and so I wasn't surprised when I looked through their photo gallery to find that their FHIA-02 photos were actually photos of an SH-3640.

If they learned how to identify their bananas a mistake like that would never happen.

The second was a member who purchased a dwarf Gros Michel 'Highgate' from us and afterwards sold the offshoots as dwarf Gros Michel 'Cocos' while also saying they got the mother plant from us.

Be careful of sellers that make a point of where they got the banana because they might be trying to shift the blame if any mistakes happen to the previous seller. Every seller should be responsible for correctly identifying their own bananas prior to selling them, it's that simple.

Technically they did get the banana from us but it was sold as a dwarf Gros Michel 'Highgate' and not as a dwarf Gros Michel 'Cocos'.

It was really funny when the member years later posted that our dwarf Gros Michel 'Cocos' was not a real dwarf Gros Michel 'Cocos'.

What that member didn't realize was that even though we grow the dwarf Gros Michel 'Cocos' we had not and still haven't yet made it available for distribution.

I have never gotten anything directly from you PR Giants other than seeds. which have done Amazing.. but don't like the cold..
There are a few things that have come from PR in my collection... And many things that are down the line from you, though.. BTW Message me, or answer mine if you'd like.. I want to change that first sentence.

And I'm kinda sad, because there are COCOS floating around that are purported to have come from you..

But moving on. Its life. You hope that you're dealing with someone giving you the right thing.... Roll with it. If someone is shady don't deal with them again. Mistakes happen, sh*t happens, but if your selling things you know are wrong, that's just sad.

hope all is well Keith, saw you commented and I wanted to jump in, you sold it as a highgate to me not sure where cocos came into the conversation, I love the banana and it grows well for me and has fruited several times. I know its true to variety the one I got from you, and stand behind it. I don't grow Ornico. i was approached and asked if I had a pup and would sell one. Anyway. thanks Keith for selling me a DGM Highgate.

happy growing

The Cocos scam had nothing to do with you and I just assumed everyone knew who the member was that started the scam.

I'm glad you're sharing your bananas and that was my reasoning behind sending it to you.

wstrickland1 makes an interesting point, do members that get their bananas for free or in trades deserve to get plants that are correctly identified.

I was aware that many of the bananas being sold were incorrectly identified so I when I made my first trade I chose to deal with a highly reputable member and 5 of the 9 cultivars I received were correctly identified.

The 4 NOIDS received were later correctly identified before sharing them with other members.

Keith might have given you a gm, but that IS NOT what you gave me. The pics you sent me via text also IS NOT a gm. I fruited it, and its taste looks identical to an dwarf Orinoco. Why don't you post a pic of your Gm highgate?

would gladly take pic if I still had them and was back in Texas. i have gave that variety to several other on here yrs ago including Hector which is no longer a part of the org. but very well know with some of the older members, I only had 1 Matt. of dim highgate and I don't grow Orinoco. As I have shared with you and several others they are all back in Texas, I sold the house 10 mo ago. i gave away most of everything before I moved and left the new owners a few of the easier to grow . I brought a few small pups with me and that's it. I live in Tennessee in the mountains.

Isn't that just so convenient for you....no pictures what so ever, very convenient.

Oh, feel free to post an older pic, it does not have to be from today. Show everyone the pic you gave me...
