These ice cream banana plants are tc's from Agristarts, and they are 6-8" tall. Big enough to be off to a good start, but not so big that you don't want to pay for shipping on them! I have several available.
From what I've seen this year, the ice cream bananas are an easy one to overwinter in a cool tropical greenhouse. Night minimum temps of 50. My big one doesn't look much different from when we brought it inside. I don't want it to grow much more though because that greenhouse is only 10 feet tall... When grown potted, they don't seem to produce pups as early as the basjoo or bordelon, but when they do start putting on the pups, those pups grow really fast. Mine grew three that got to be around 2 feet tall in just a month or so, and that was up towards fall when it was getting cooler outside.
They do have a silvery, powdered look to the back side of the leaves, and sometimes when the weather is cooler, the stems/leaf petioles get a slightly pinkish powdery look to them. The overall color of the leaves is green, but it looks just a little bluish in comparison to a basjoo or cavendish.
These ice cream banana plants are growing really fast, being downstairs in my "secret basement laboratory" ( as the kids call it!) under a big grow light in 80 degree temps. They are a nice shippable size now though, being around 6-8" tall.
If you see anything else you want in my online store, it's 10% off to bananas.org members (except for water plant fertilizers, they're about as low as I can sell them anyway)
