ae ae banana arrived

:2791: When my cousin finally showed up a last week and I thought or should I say expected to see the 4 plants he promised me. When he pulled up his van and opened the doors to my suprise there were 9. They are all different sizes with trunks from 18 " to 24 " some with 3 to 4 leaves and some with 4-5 leaves. I sold 4 on ebay those people will definatley be happy. I decided to keep all the rest for my self.:2791:

Those pups are the best that I have seen, fairly large and a lot of them. With the high % of green it will be easier to go through the winter. What's your zone?

I am zone 6. I have a metal halide light indoors to help and my indoor temps stay around 85f. They are all still pushing out middle leaves and I have gotten about 1/2 inch of growth since they have been in my house this week.

Hey, Mike, congrats on the boat load of Ae Ae.

I see two of your eBay buyers have already left you positive feedback and I'm happy to see that.

I noticed that your auction included the following statement which I'm curious about:

Quote:

This year there has been lots of damage to some California suppliers and some southern suppliers in the gulf states which may make the price of the plant in the coming year even higher!
I've talked to several nurseries this year about their Ae Ae and honestly can say that none of them discussed problems. I did read something similar (or identical?) to this stated in someone else's eBay auction a while back. Are you personally aware of any nurseries that had problems? Are you predicting even higher prices in 2008? I just bought two more large Ae Ae pups for $100 each (4' plus) and the nursery didn't seem to have any troubles, so I'm curious about this.

Also, regarding your light system, I'd like seeing a photo, if you can. I'm putting my own light up this week (the rail for the mover got lost for a week and just arrived yesterday). I'd like to see how you have yours set up.

Again, congrats on the Ae Ae "forest"!

Harvey when I was calling around to get info on these there were a few places I called who told me that there was damage to there main plants and it would be some time before they offered pups. Natural selection told me that , cactus ranch told me that and my cousin told me of people who where interested in his older plants because of the damage they received. Another place told me that the place they get them from in hawaii didnt have any because of some fungus infection which I know nothing about.

Thanks, Mike. From what I understand, bananas can't be shipped to the mainland anways, but maybe that is just to California. I hear all kinds of stories. One friend in Hawaii told me that he can get Ae Ae for $10 and that they are common. Another friend in Hawaii says that they aren't that common but that he sells them for $50 when he has them. I paid $200 for one nice large one and then $100 each for two that were even larger and thought I got a great deal. They think we're all suckers (and I don't mean "pups")!! LOL

I have been to Hawaii numerous times and they are not that common and the growers know the value of these rare plants..so no $10 pups...

I think someone posted an article to the forum a while back about stolen Ae Ae's in Maui..
