What type of pup is this?

These pups come out about 2 to 3 feet away from the original plant.

The tip of the rhizome produces large sword suckers, and many of these other types along the side of the rhizome.

They are long and thin, very easy to collect and grow much faster than a sword sucker.

The growing point is somewhere in the white area, so they don't need to be removed near or with a section of the rhizome.

Funny, all pups will eventually die but these will bear fruit before then.

One common characteristic of these pups is that they always bind.
It is not a problem because they are very thin, so when a bulge is
noticed, you simply need to split the pseudostem to allow the new leaf
to emerge. When I am collecting these pups I don't know exactly where
the growing point will be, in this one it appears to be above the bend.

LOL I thought the same thing when I first looked at the picture.

IMO, it's just a sword sucker. Maybe they vary a bit, but it isn't a water sucker and I believe those are the only two recognized types...unless we can show enough evidence to add another!

I vote for water spear sucker!

Maybe there is some sort of site condition where the mat wants to spread its self out, thus the sucker that offsetting its self so far. I'm not expert so take that theory with a grain of salt.

If it's true that there are only two recognized types, I'd agree with it being a water sucker. Maybe they vary a bit, but it doesn't resemble a sword sucker.

The pups distance from the mother plant is not a determining factor.

The shovel is where the mother plant was located.

Mother plant is on the far right and the pup at the tip of a rhizome on the far left.

OK so even if I cut the pup off, without getting the rootball or corm, it will still grow???

good luck with that idea. some get good results but most don't.
