If you are interesting in learning how to tissue culture plants, including bananas, there will be a hands-on workshop at the Kankakee Community College on Sept. 18th.

The workshop will be hosted by Dr. Carol Stiff and Dr. Scott Stewart, (orchid specialist). I will be bringing 10 Musa Basjoo banana plants, (about 18 inches tall), and giving them to the first 10 people who want them and sign up for the workshop. You will be able to put the banana plants into tissue culture and take them home! Or, bring your own banana plants and we’ll help you put those in tissue culture. Wish you could make it too. It's going to be fun. I'll take some videos of the workshop and post them. I would love to do a live video stream but would have to okay that with Carol.

Along with the 10 Musa Basjoo plants I'll give away, I'm going to hand out poly containers of newly germinated Cattleya Dowiana orchids. Each poly container has 100+ (probably 125 to 150), seedlings of C. Dowiana in them. This is a beautiful orchid from Costa Rica. If you show up at the workshop, a nice poly container with over a hundred orchids in it is yours.

I have more goodies to give away at the workshop. Some handy large 60ml syringes and smaller 30ml sryinges. I drilled holes in the end caps for the 30ml syringes and they can be used to disinfect orchid seeds.

The workshop will be held on West Campus in Bldg. #2 (Hort. & Ag. Bldg. adjacent to greenhouse); parking available next to the building.

Pastries, snacks and coffee will be served starting a 9AM so it would be good to get there around 8:30 to snag the best pastries

Lunch - box lunches, water, soda
Afternoon - coffee, water, soda, snacks

This is a really cool forum. I signed up ages ago but always forget to visit. Lots of interest here. Lots of expertise. Any grant writers? Wish we could get a huge grant and do workshops all over. See you on the 18th - finally. Does everyone realize that you are vice president of KCET/HTCG and that we have never met?
