TERNPC - The latest greatest????

Just wondered how many of you have read about this process and know anything about it. It claims to be better, faster, cheaper and more productove than TC for over 550 different types of plants (don't know if bananas are one of them)

Here is a post I found in AgLinks from Australia.

A new method of plant propagation - AgLinks Forums

Seems like professor Li is selling a propagation elixir.

Hi Scot

Hmmmm.

sounds too good to be true, in which case...:ha::ha:

I would guess its a money up front deal. I'd run a mile from it.

e mail them and ask for references of western companies/individuals who have done it successfully

Re: TERNPC - The latest greatest????

Anyone heard any more about this? I am quite curious how it works.

Richard 10-31-2008 02:11 PM

Re: TERNPC - The latest greatest????

I am curious about two things:
  1. IF it works; i.e., an independent study showing positive outcomes.
  2. HOW it works; i.e., bio-chemical processes involved. The website has 0% meaningful content in this regard.

I would imagine that they want to keep it as proprietary information while they set up licensees. It won't be long before we read about it from somewhere. Sure will be interesting to find out how it works.

"They" are a Chinese company that has been trying to sell the TERNPC product/procedure for at least 10 years: Beijing LI CHANGXIAO TERNPC Co., Ltd

It sounds to me like he is just putting medium into the soil and putting the explant into it with something to counteract contamination. Ingredients like coconut water, activated charcoal and growth regulators.
Sure wish I could find out more detailed info.

Re: TERNPC - The latest greatest????

Scot, for your thesis I know you learned how to perform a review of the literature. It would be unusual if Li or someone from the company did not present a paper or two at a conference.

Re: TERNPC - The latest greatest????

Precisely, I have been searching high and low for that research, someone must have published it somewhere. Unfortunately, one must rifle through many search pages for the good Doctor and it seems that there is another doctor similarly named, complicating matters worse. (Not to mention that Li is a common surname in China)
If you find something, by all means, let me know. I have heard of cotton, activated charcoal and even peat moss used as a substrate medium, but contamination is the missing component here.

Have you tried asking the company for bibliography of conference and technical papers discussing TERNPC?
Beijing LI CHANGXIAO TERNPC Co., Ltd

I have sent an email, but have not received a reply. I think that they have covered their tracks intentionally. But if it's out there, I want to find it.

I don't think so. It is in the company's best interest to get the positive attention of the academic community. The only thing they would want to hide is a unilateral rejection by academia.

Well, I encourage everyone here in the nursery stock business to send a letter of interest inquiring how to get started at your nursery site. Then in a month or two we can all make tentative plans to visit Beijing -- and see how they feel about receiving a group of 20 people.
:lurk:
