Question On Banana Propagation.

If I was To Cut a piece Of Corm Out a Banana Plant, & Plant It , would It Grow ?

If So , Does The Donor Corm Section Has to have present a Root Or Roots Or Any Section Of Corm Will Produe A Plant ?

Thank's To All The Mad Banana Scientist For Making This One Cool Hobby.
I Must Admit It Can Get Addictive at times..:nanadrink:

Re: Question On Banana Propagation.

treat it kind of like a potato..it need to be a piece with eyes..i like to let mine dryout a little before i replant..be careful can rot very easy...I cut off all roots and scrap it all to the fresh white corm... thin like you are peeling a potato....,then i let it sit for a week or 2,,i pot mine up in dry soil mix and only spray water just keeping top1/3 moist, again watch for rotting..after you scrap it you will see the eyes where the roots and small buds were comming out..keep warm and wait..i do mine indoors..easier to conrole moister humidty heat and so on..works for me

Re: Question On Banana Propagation.

Ok I did That Today with an African Rhino Horn , I divided The Corms Into Variour Pieces , Lets see if im lucky :nanadrink:.

If That Practice works , How about the corms of the banana plants that fruited , can the corms be divided & will they Bloom ? Or Does every part of the banana tree die after blooming ?

Thank You ..

Re: Question On Banana Propagation.

Only the stem that bloomed dies off. Even the corm from the stem that bloomed can be taken off and divided up, and will sprout new pups. Pups will continue to come up and continue the mat, and each one will die after blooming. Theoretically, a banana mat can sustain itself in this way indefinitely.

I had a sliver of Corm w/ an eye come up and do well.. I think one member said if its the size of a softball or so no problems.. Smaller you may have less chance of success... :^)
