I have the opposite problem. I live in Costa Rica on a built up hillside and the buildup was done with subsoil clay. No nutrient, no nada.
We have to dig out 1m x 1m x 30 cm holes and fill them with black organic soil to start.
We get 100" to 120" of rain per year.

It's a lot of work but well worth it.

It will take a while and a half. Just transplanting can, if the plant's
environment is changed drastically, take up to two months for new growth or
it can just continue without blinking. And those plants usually have still all
their roots. In your case the corm will have to send out new roots, before
they can support new growth. When that will happen is anybody's guess, but
happen it will.

Just wanted to follow back up with this post, 1 of 3 has produced a new leaf! I've seen no movement on the other two yet.

Quick update, I now have two large leaves on the medium one, which did not lose any of its previous height. The tallest one, I though was dead, and started cutting it back looking for life (it was rotting and had to be cut and peeled to remove the rot). About a foot from the ground, and a quarter of the original diameter, I found live plant, it has now produced a leaf at that point. The smallest one never recovered, I cut back past ground level looking for life, but the core was black. The daytime temp here is now 105+ daily, and everything but true desert plants really slow down.

Just an update, the one that had to be cut back has done well this summer, producing about ten leaves, but not much height, maybe 2'. The tallest one only grew 5 leaves, and seems to have had to work harder, but is green and actively growing, and is about 4' tall.

Neither has produced any pups, and I wish they would! Any suggestions?

Sounds that you are doing everything right. Keep up the good work and you will see pups. So far all the energy went into root and corm development. Advice = patience.

Lol, patience, the product they don't sell in stores, and probably the one I'm shortest on. Thank you, I'll post a before and after pic soon too.

Edit - crazy banana, hope my response didn't sound rude, it was intended in jest, and aimed at my own lack of patience - the Thank you was sincere for your response.

Just closing the loop on this, the second one, that had the least amount of corn, just produced its first pup last month. So about 10 months from no roots and approximately an inch of corn, to pup. Both of them are now very large, and the bigger one that had to be cut back, (though it had more corn) has now resigned all of its full height (not to mention now being as big around as my leg) the first pup it produced is now bigger than the mother.

So last post on this topic, I must have reached a critical mass of some type with these two plants, as I've got pups everywhere from both.

hybrid power, so it was 3 years and 7 months to go from a small corm to flower?

I guess the one thing you learned from the inception of this thread way back in March 2014 to now is what CrazyBanana suggested is patience. What is your advice for developing patience when you want results like yesterday? lol

No, all jokes aside, bananas are just one hobby, I keep very busy, and the time passed faster than expected. I had two mats bloom this summer.

hybrid power thanks for the update, and yes I guess kids would be one of the best ways to learn about patience. I don't have any so I guess that is why I get impatient easily.
