How to harvest a baby cut.
 

I haven't been here in a long time as my banana seeds did not grow. I have a friend with a mini-banana plant, and she says it has a sprout/baby, but does not know how to cut it. I am sure it is in here somewhere, but I am not into bananas YET unless the cutting takes root. What is the proper way to harvest a cutting? I have done it with other plants, like tomatoes, as they form roots with and without rooting hormones pretty easily. I think she has a mini planter strain of banana, but is has not yielded fruit. It is in a bucket and is an indoor/outdoor plant.

Thank you. I didn't know it was that easy and that roots were involved. Cloning tomato plants doesn't involve roots, and rooting hormones are used to encourage rapid new root development, even though it can be done without hormones for the organic growers. On average, how old does a plant need to be before it would produce fruit/herb? Do they all self pollinate, or is a second plant required? I think it would be interesting to grow a banana plant that gives edible fruit/herb. But in Iowa, that will be a lot of indoor out door moving for the seasons.
