This is one of my favorite summer drinks. We used to get liquados when I lived in Los Angeles. I like tamarindo, guava, pnieapple...basically they are just fruit in the blender with a little sugar, water, and it you like, lime juice.
I planted a summer mint and basil garden this year, and thanks to the rain we have had almost daily, its thriving! So I have lots a different basils to use to make this. Basically, for one person, take a cup of watermelon meat, 1/4 cup water, 2-3 packets of Equal (or sugar, or sweetner of your choice to taste), juice of one lime, and 6-8 fresh basil leaves, or a combo of basil and mint. Put it all in the blender and liquify. Serve over crushed ice. You can make this into a watermelon margarita by adding tequila and orange liquer--I use Patron silver and Gran Gala. Yum yum yum. |
