Default Wanted - Siam 50% red/50% green - FOUND! :)

Brian had one on eBay earlier this week that I lost out on. I e-mailed Stokes to see if they have any but have not heard back. Does anybody else have one?

The price seems high on this for now but I wonder if they will become more plentiful next spring and drop in price also.

Unless you want Dwarf Orinoco, I don't think I've got anything available for swap until the spring so let me know what you'd take for a "50/50" if you have one available.

Thanks!

Thanks! As soon as I get mine, I'll wish you luck as well! LOL

I've even thought of buying a few of the "standard" form plants in hopes I'll get a 50/50 pup. Up to this point I've only selected edible types but the 50/50 is worth the space, for sure.

My original plant started to get leaves that were about 30/70 green to red for about 3 leaves, then went back to normal. After seeing that, I'm not so sure how stable that pattern would be. Not sure enough to purchase one at this point, would like to learn from someone else's experience. I hope you can get one that stays that way through the entire life of the plant!

I have one of the nice light green types with a pup that I'll sell if anyone wants it. $25 + shipping

If you graft half of each leaf with red ones, I'll take it for $35! LOL

Thanks for the well wishes, I have one coming my way.

Hopefully it is somewhat stable and doesn't croak this winter!

I'll try to put up a photo of my new plant that arrived today. Or where you looking for something that was "sick"?? LOL

For what it's worth, I got this plant from Stokes. They have it listed at http://www.stokestropicals.com/detail.aspx?ID=2260. After I ordered I found out from Brian that he also had some available.

Unfortunately, I killed my Siam 50/50 late winter when I think I either over-watered it or didn't water it enough. My moisture meter seemed to say things were moist even when they seemed dry!

I bring this up because I notice today that Brian sold on for $159.02 today. Amazing!!! Musa Siam Ruby Variegated! - Banana Canna Alocasia - eBay (item 260252467748 end time Jun-23-08 19:29:10 PDT)

Harvey I noticed that too. It was only $83 when I looked last. Wow, guess they must be quite a find.

The same buyer has paid over $200 for poinsettia and other plants from the Hilo nursery that sells Ae Ae. Might be a foreign buyer taking advantage of the weak dollar!

Did you happen to notice that the plant for sale is not the one pictured but one that is similar? Wonder what the actual plant looks like, especially at that price.

Thanks, Brian, but the seller seems to have something listed that is not a 50/50 even though that's how they describe it. I wonder why they are using that term because even the mother plant does not look like a 50/50. I assume you were talking of 50 50 SIAM RUBY BANANA PLANT VERY RARE - eBay (item 170263206677 end time Sep-24-08 08:23:59 PDT) as it's the only one I see right now that is described as that.

Thanks,

Harvey

I have one that's been throwing about 40/60 leaves all summer. Picture is being loaded in my pictures right now, if you'd be interested in that one. I've been watching it all summer to see if it'll keep doing this and so far so good.
