Looking for Gros michele in Australia
Been searching far and wide around Australia for several years with zero luck. I have many fruiting and ornamental cultivars to swap or happy to buy.
C,mon Aussie banana lovers, someone must have one, somewhere, cheers from Aus. |
Re: Looking for Gros michele in Australia
Sorry, I'm not in OZ. But welcome to the forum anyway. ... You should make a post in the 'new member' section and tell us more about your self and the Bananas you grow.

I'm with you JMC96. Someone in Oz has to have GM.

Re: Looking for Gros michele in Australia
Hello all and fellow Aussie banana enthusiasts!
I hope to snag a gros michel pup one day. Hopefully I'll have a cultivar or two worth swapping when that day comes. Good luck with your searches, JMC. |

Re: Looking for Gros michele in Australia
I am very interested in trying out the fruit (i think my climate is a bit too cold to grow it, I live in Melbourne). If anyone has some fruit and is willing to sell a hand or knows where i can get some, please message me.
Cheers mygc |
Re: Looking for Gros michele in Australia
Leads are drying up. A guy on Fb has contacts in DPI who apparently grow it, he's making some inquiries on my behalf, and druss from WA has a friend who will give/sell me one when pups appear. Not all lost just yet.

Re: Looking for Gros michele in Australia
One has pupped, just waiting on the pup to be large enough to separate.

Re: Looking for Gros michele in Australia
Wow, reading that has made my Easter.
Thank you for the update, druss. I'll be hopping around all day on the good news. |
Re: Looking for Gros michele in Australia
Why bother with GM? Namwah is a better cultivar.
|
Re: Looking for Gros michele in Australia
It's known as Ducasse in Australia. I'm keen to try a Dwarf Duccasse I recently acquired from a forum member.
|
Re: Looking for Gros michele in Australia
"Big Mike" and "Ducasse" are different cultivars.
|
Re: Looking for Gros michele in Australia
Yes, sorry, my last statement could have been misleading.
I was referring to Namwah as what we know as Ducasse here in Australia. GM is rarely mentioned, but I'd like to change all that. |
Re: Looking for Gros michele in Australia
I think growing a GM or one of the GM dwarfs is a worthy endeavor since it has disappeared from our shelves. Bringing it back in your garden and reclaiming a piece of history is great and makes for a great conversation with your family and friends.
Plant what you want to plant based on what you think is interesting (and capable of growing based on your climate, resources, and patience)! |
