Re: Looking 4 Blue Java / Ice Cream Pup
If you're after fruit, contrary to what you may have read on the web, Blue Java / Ice Cream are not the tastiest out there.
(that's not even addressing the other cultivars sold as "Ice Cream") I actually prefer our Dwarf Orinocos to Blue Java, but you may find other varieties more to your liking, depending on your tastes. Blue Java does have a distinctive blue-green hue to the foliage though, with "silver-toned" undersides of the leaves. Are you after fruit or foliage?

Re: Looking 4 Blue Java / Ice Cream Pup
Im after abundance and fruit flavor now and zone consideration (8B) high winds. I like the taste of a greenish yellow cavendish and despise them when they are ripe. I guess I am looking for a fruity flavored tartesh fluffy banana.

Re: Looking 4 Blue Java / Ice Cream Pup
Oki doke, I just ordered a Goldfinger! I hope its what it says it is!
Some info incase anyone cares! The plants offered are baby Goldfinger Dwarf Banana Plants. The plants are anywhere from between 1"-8" tall and are planted in 4" pots. The plants are tissue cultured cultured plants to prevent disease and give a clone of the healthy parent. It is cold and wind resistant and considered a dwarf, reaching a height of 2.5 m (8ft.) The FHIA-01 Goldfinger Banana is a hybrid dessert banana that was developed and released by FHIA in 1988. These plants are cold and wind-tolerant and produce high quality fruits and is widely distributed for subsistence and commercial cultivation. The female parent was a Dwarf Brazilian/Dwarf Apple and still carries that nice apple flavor, making it an excellent desert banana and is mostly eaten raw when ripe. The ripe fruit has a sweet-acid, apple flavor that is similar to the mother plant. The cut fruit does not turn black upon exposure to the air and so is good to use in salads. It is also excellent to cook with while green such as sliced and fried. Last edited by tibetan : 03-11-2014 at 12:01 AM. |
