lady finger banana is called in Sugar bananas, Sucrier, Niņos, Bocadillos, Fig bananas, or Date banana. Have a name in latin language musa acuminata.

Re: Ladyfinger

But doesn't ladyfinger umbrella several varieties such as dwarf brazilian?

Re: Ladyfinger

The term ladyfinger is kind of a mess, and at least in Hawaii seems to be used for many unrelated types. It's sometimes generically used for any small fingered type, which can include Sucrier types. Where I live, the main TC supplier for the state sells a Lady Finger and a Dwarf Ladyfinger, both or which are slightly different, both cavendish types so really broadens "ladyfinger" here to be totally meaningless. When someone asks me if I sell "ladyfinger" they could mean anything. I sell the two types called ladyfinger as sold by the TC supplier, but tell my customers what they actually are and that they probably aren't the same as what they ate that someone else called ladyfinger, and that they're both below average.

Hi Rob, glad for your input. It appears to me a very confusing issue. In essence, I/m hearing that Ladyfinger covers more than 1 variety which was created by whom. So when I ask for a ladyfinger from a seller, what am I actually getting, as from my understanding, even the seller may not know. Was this problem caused by a TC supplier? Isn't a dwarf brazilian a ladyfinger? Very confusing to me or I just may be dense.

Thanks Rob

Re: Ladyfinger

As Gabe explained on another thread, ladyfinger isn't really a real cultivar. I guess one could call something a ladyfinger if they just mean a somewhat small banana, but even that falls apart as I've had Brazilian fruit larger than those of what are normally not considered small cavendish fruits. It is confusing, which is why the term is probably better avoided or clarification is needed if one refers to a banana as ladyfinger.

If someone claims to have a ladyfinger, should I be asking what variety of ladyfinger they have, oh I see, you just stated that further clarification would be needed. Thanks Rob, you have been very helpful. I believe I'Lloyd just avoid the term.
