Been searching the woods now and then for wild nanners, those things are everywhere. I thought they were a kind of weed, until I began to see how many people have them in the northern zones. They are tropical looking but they get way too big for my yard.

Btw, I agree with growing on high water tables. But how do the bananas do it? I mean, if the soil stays wet than the roots rot. Yet, I know of a couple places where the nanas are only inches from the water and still fruiting?

Chris - I know bananas with wet feet have been discussed on another thread, but I think that if the temperatures are high enough, they can take a lot of water. I have some dwarf cavendish that grow where the water from the swimming pool flows when the filter is backwashed 3 times a week. VERY wet feet and chlorine etc but quite happy, in fact just flowering - but of course the temperature here is HOT day and night and very high humidity.

Yes, I know a couple locations where these guys grow wild and thick around my neighborhood. When I was in Georgia and saw what they were being sold for, I was astonished. They're everywhere here!
